Jasmyn Clyft, Mimi Kamp, Ash Baksi

Bio

I’m Ash Baksi, born and raised in Tkaronto/Toronto. I deeply love and am strongly committed to this resilient industrial city. It has seen vast change, from the earliest acts of genocide and colonization to the construction of Canada’s largest city.

As a child I explored the city’s ravines and the lake. I love the mixture/mutation that happens within and between the industrial and plant/land elements. They are not separate from each other, they are intertwined. To push each other and to hold each other up as they grow and feel depleted. This land has infinite healing capacity; with 18 nuclear reactors in Ontario alone, I know this land is beyond resilient.

In Clinical Herbalism my passions are working with people with autoimmune conditions, long standing health concerns, brain injuries, chronic pain, herbalism for dogs, digestive disruptions and diseases, cancer and gender affirming herbalism.

I have been studying Clinical Herbalism and working with plants for over ten years. I have always allowed the plants to lead me. In 2012, I began attending my first official herb school: The Wild Seed School of Herbal Studies on Salt Spring Island, BC. At Wild Seed, I learned from Jasmyn Clift, Maryann Abbs and Kevin Kunzler. Most recently I attended the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism (VCIH), where I practiced in our student clinic and was able to dive deeper into Pathophysiology.

As a Clinical Herbalist, I use a harm reduction approach where people of all health statuses are welcome. This includes people who use pharmaceuticals as well as people with compromised organ function and immune systems.

I really love to work with clients on a variety of concerns including:

  • Anxiety
  • Autoimmune Disorders
  • Asthma
  • Brain Injuries
  • Sleep Disturbances
  • Digestive Upset
  • Gender Affirming Care
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Cancer
  • Chronic Pain
  • Stress & More

Clinical Herbalism

Rather than positioning herbalism and conventional medicine against each other I believe that both of these approaches are extremely useful and beneficial and can mutually support each other. I hold the plants in one hand and medical advances in the other. Together they are more than when they are apart.

I hold an immaculate balance of honour, respect, reverence, love, and compassion for the plants’ relationship to humans and animals. There are times when allopathic medicine falls short and I believe that is where Clinical Herbalism can shine. I also greatly appreciate the medical advances and sciences for how it can deepen our understanding of how an herb is changing or interacting with our bodies, viruses and microbiomes.

Appointments, Follow-ups and Timing

Before your first appointment you will receive an intake form, informed consent form, and waiver. To make the most out of your time at your first consult, please fill out and return your intake form before your appointment. If you have any recent blood work, stool and urine lab results these are also important to include with your intake form. In the future when you get new lab work and/or want to discuss these results with me, send them via email at least one week before our next consultation.

The intake consult is two hours in length. We will take an in-depth look at your health history, discuss your health goals, your current health picture and discuss what strategies work best to enhance your body’s innate healing capacity.

Follow-ups are most beneficial when they are spaced appropriately apart. To best manage and monitor your health and progress, I suggest having follow-ups at 4-6 week intervals. Once your conditions have stabilized, we can space our appointments further apart. Follow-ups can range from 30 minutes to an hour in length depending on your situation.

In follow-ups we will discuss any changes to your health, and what that can mean for you. This can include recent diagnoses and lab results, and how your formulas are feeling for you. We will also reassess what your goals are and if we are meeting them.
